| Cody grunted as they slid the stone out and accepted the weight of it. It had to be close to a couple of hundred pounds. They bent slowly working as one and laid it gently on the floor. “Sheesh. That was heavier than I expected.” Cody remarked and went to get the flashlight that was sitting on the floor against the far wall where it wouldn’t get broken. It was a good thing the stone hadn’t been any higher on the wall or they would have had a hard time getting it down out of the way. As it was it was shoulder level for the two men. “It is a rock. What did you expect?” Lionel remarked dryly. Cody shone the light inside the hole that was now opened to them expecting to see another stone. “I didn’t expect…” He jumped back, his heart hammering madly in his chest. “Holy shit. Did you see that?” “What?” Lionel’s stance went absolutely rigid. “There is someone in there.” “What? No way.” Lionel said again in disbelief. “Shine the light in there.” He had a burning desire to know what Cody saw but he was fearful nonetheless that it might be something bad like a rotting corpse or old dry bones. He did not want to find any rotting corpses! Cody reluctantly stepped forward again and shone the light into the hole. He gasped for a second time and stepped back. It was just as startling this time too. “That!” He didn’t know if his heart could take this. His breathing was irregular and hard from shock. “What that?” Lionel looked inside. “There is nothing there, nothing but a stone ledge. It is just another room, Cody.” Cody was near speechlessness as Lionel took the flashlight from him and shined the light all around the small room. Couldn’t he see it? The light played over the room and the single occupant thereof. There was a person sitting there. She looked at them curiously. “If there was a treasure hidden in there someone already got it.” “Lionel? Don’t you see the woman?” Cody’s legs began shake ever so slightly. His knees would be knocking soon. |
